Counter-power: March For Our Lives

March For Our Lives is a movement against gun violence in the USA mainly composed by a strong youth and created by shooting survivours so "you don't have to be one". Their main aim is to eradicate the 40 000 deaths by gun per year. To do this, they organise demonstrations where friends and families of the victims and survivors can speak out for the voiceless victims. They also want to raise awareness about the NRA bribing the government to keep the gun laws intact. They "demand change" as "now is the time for the youth vote to stand up to the gun lobby when no one else will", refering to the 2018 elections in the USA. Therefore they ask us to get informed by looking at the numbers such as the price of each student's life in Florida, based on the millions of dollars politicians have accepted from the NRA which sums up to 1,05 dollars per student. Their peace plan is their main peaceful "weapon" against gun brutalities.

Generation Lockdown - March For Our Lives

This ad was created by an advertising agency called McCann in New York and was then made viral by March For Our Lives under #GenerationLockdown. The video depicts an all-staff office training meeting in National City, California, where an "expert" on  active shooter drills was invited to train the workers. It turns out the "expert" is actually a middle school girl named Kayleigh. Moreover, she teaches the adults how to protect themselves in the event of a school shooting by instructing them with a frighting step by step, illustrated by a song they have learned at school, on the actions that need to be taken in this type of  urgent situation. She proceeds by telling them how to recognise gunfire, how to hide and protect the doorways. When she states how gunfire sounds, an image of the victims of school shootings and those mourning them is shownFurthermore we are told that 95% of  public school students in the USA have to practise lockdown drills at their schools. The target of this spot is for the public to learn about the S.42 Background Check Expansion Act which prohibits a firearm transfer between private parties unless a licensed gun dealer, manufacturer, or importer first takes posession of the firearm to conduct a background check.
